Join us for this 90-minute training designed specifically for perinatal professionals who want to confidently support clients experiencing emotional eating and binge eating disorder during pregnancy and postpartum. This evidence-based training will equip you with essential assessment skills, helping you ask the right questions from the start and understand why these questions matter for building therapeutic relationships.
You'll learn to recognize key personality traits common in adults with eating struggles, discover the critical differences between helpful and harmful nutritional support approaches, and understand why traditional behavior change strategies often fail during the perinatal period. The training explores both biological and psychological triggers that are amplified during pregnancy and postpartum, including hormonal fluctuations, identity shifts, and the complex intersection of necessary weight changes with eating disorder recovery.
This masterclass goes beyond surface-level interventions by examining the unconscious protective functions that eating behaviors serve, particularly during the vulnerable perinatal period when clients are navigating tremendous physical and emotional changes. You'll gain practical tools for supporting clients within your scope of practice while developing confidence in recognizing when specialized eating disorder treatment is needed.
By the end of this training, you'll have a clear framework for providing compassionate, informed care that validates the complexity of perinatal eating experiences without pathologizing normal pregnancy and postpartum changes. Whether you're a midwife, doula, perinatal mental health therapist, or other birth professional, this training will enhance your ability to support the whole person behind the eating behaviors, ultimately improving outcomes for both clients and their families during this critical life transition.

Having worked in private practice for over 15 years, Emma has developed a deep
understanding of the complexities involved in emotional eating and binge eating disorders
(BED).
Her extensive experience of working with individuals and groups across the entire spectrum
of disordered eating led to the development of the Eating Freely™ Program, a structured,
trauma informed model of working with adults experiencing emotional eating and binge
eating disorder.
Emma is driven by a mission to increase awareness and understanding of the role of trauma
in emotional eating and binge eating disorder, particularly among healthcare professionals
and the public. Her advocacy is fuelled by the significant prevalence of emotional eating and
binge eating in higher weight healthcare, where psychological supports are rare.
